Now for a little change of pace...while you might be thinking NOTHING occurred beyond Friday night at the reunion because, frankly, that's what most of the photos have been so far, here is something new and different, and I offer you this guarantee - you're going to have BIG LOVE for the following photos!
Big, big THANK YOU, Gary and Maryellen Koller Mencimer for your wonderful photos. Some of the following images were taken by Maryellen and some by Gary - they definitely BOTH have an eye for composition. You'll know Gary's photos by the "artsy" bent you'll see on some common items around Central that Gary, looking through his lens, saw in a spectacularly beautiful way!
Gary said getting shots of the Central alumni in a large group was like herding cats. Maryellen said, "Yeah - WILDCATS!" You sure got that one right, guys. The picture below, taken in our old gymnasium - finally renamed "The Central Gym" shows you most of the group that attended the tour of Central on Sunday morning. While our biggest crowd was definitely on Friday night, followed closely by the Country Club dinner on Saturday, I think everyone who came on Sunday would agree the tour of Central and our walk through the ensuing time warp, was indeed a grand finale to the 45th Class of '65 reunion! The Central High activities window:
Memories...The old auditorium...it still looks much the same as when we were students there. Nowadays there is a rumor that the auditorium is haunted...see if you can detect a ghostly spirit amongst the sunbeams lighting up the rows up seats in the old auditorium - now called The Mary Richardson Theater after a Central drama teacher who worked at Central in the 70s and 80s.
The Central band is alive and well...a beautiful shot of a drum in the music room...
Catching up...at the brunch on Sunday morning, so many old friends walked through the doorway into the beautiful "new" Central cafeteria. It was a bit of time travel for sure! Pictured below, Gale Hoover Hammond, Miriam Price Lindahl (in town from Boulder) and Crete Crawford Wood share some memories...
Central's sparkling swimming pool is found at the end of this hallway! Now where was THAT when we were students?!!!
As pretty as she was in high school - Judy Zobec Fellhaur was in town from Colorado Springs.
A Long Row of Lockers...within his lens Gary captured a mundane object and gave it new life.
A happy quartet - Mary Middleton Ray in town from Arvada, Miriam Price Lindahl, Crete Crawford Wood and Tom Sarconi.
Nancy Zimmerman DeNiro, Carol Todero Smith and Danny Smith connect for a chat before beginning the tour.
Enjoying a great brunch - catered by Carolyn and David Daurio's Tamarack Grill - Richard Sell, Bill Chapparo and Cherie Ludlow Chapparo.
This is a sweet picture indeed - Sandra (who has officially changed her name to Zandi and it fits her to a "T" I might add!) - and Pete Falletta.
Now - take a gander at the BEAUTIFUL Central cafeteria...this is a definite improvement over our old cafeteria that was housed in the basement (if memory serves) during our tenure. There's a long line of Wildcats lining up for brunch...
Joe's pictures from Friday night continue. I think Joe could work as a wedding photographer - he got some great candids and posed pics alike. He did such a great job that I'm thinking of leaving my camera at home next reunion! So, as promised, here are some more of Joe's fun photos...Charlie Tappero (in Pueblo from Scottsdale, Arizona) and Dave Binkley seem to be having an interesting conversation...could Dave be explaining to Charlie Einstein's Theory of Relativity perhaps? Patty Concialdi and Brenda Sell catching up.
Well, these three look like they are up to absolutely no good...shades of high school?....Listen: those flashbacks are rough! Left to right - Pete Falletta, Mike Cullen (in from Las Vegas) and Robert Holland (also visiting from Vegas). Might be appropriate to insert at this point, "What happens in Pueblo..."
Bill Chapparo and Jim Wallace confer in the background while Jim's wife, Sue, and Duane Takaki chat in the front portion of the photo.
Reunion Committee member Richard Sell and his wife, Brenda, find a few minutes to relax and chat.
A picturesque group here...left to right Sue (Jim) Wallace, Bill Chapparo, Jim Wallace, Charlie Tappero, Loretta Douglas (in Pueblo from Virginia) and Duane Takaki.
An expanding group...on the left, Jim Wallace, Joe Klune (who turned over his camera for a moment so he could get into one of his photos!), Bill Chapparo, Charlie Tappero, Loretta Douglas, Gale Hoover Hammond and Duane Takaki.
What do you suppose these guys were talking about? Ok, never mind...probably just another foiled plot to blow up the Central High chemistry lab...Les Robinson with his back to the camera, David Daurio and looking over David's shoulder, Bill Chapparo.
Four more friends catching up...Jim Wallace, Cherie Ludlow, Duane Takaki, Gale Hoover Hammond...
Reunion Committee(s)...Nancy Carhart Pope, on the committee for the 45th reunion, hangin' out with Sherry O'Brien Massarotti and Jan Fisher Jones - Reunion Committee members for 10, 20, 30, 35, and 40th reunions! WHEW!
Chips Wood, Crete Crawford Wood and Marilyn (David) Binkley hold court at one of the round tables on Friday night.
That's Bill Hodges (seated) visiting with a fellow classmate who MAY be Tim Simmons - he has his face turned just a TEENEY bit too far away from the camera to make a definite I.D.! So - correct me if I'm wrong, somebody! And that's Dave Binkley in the yellow shirt you'll notice in the background.
Gary Mencimer and Larry Lewis seemed to have hit upon an interesting topic of conversation...
Steve Bateman, on the left, and Dave Binkley, to the right, share a few words.
Is this a great picture or what? Mark and Peggy Mutz share their happy smiles for the camera.
Still as cute as they were in high school...that's Linda Wicken Delone with Rick Roblek and Danny Daurio.
Ray Hernandez visits with Carol Todero Smith and Danny Smith.
Bill Chapparo (on the left) and Elaine Gilbert Bateman (on the right) seem to each be making a point...Duane Takaki is taking it all in - could he be caught in the middle???
All smiles for Joe's camera - Sherry O'Brian Massarotti, Chips Wood, and Nancy Carhart Pope.
Round table discussions...Lynn and Tim Simmons on the left with Crete Crawford Wood in the center, and Marilyn and Dave Binkley on the right.
Nancy Ward Weldon, Gale Hoover Hammond, Jaci Tomsic Roseman and Cathy Kopules Wilkens are all smiles for the camera.
Those great old songs of the 60s were just too good not to dance to and several couples made it out to the dance floor Friday evening - Ron Concialdi and Linda Wicken shake what their mamas gave 'em.
Meanwhile, back on the sidelines, Jack Tomsic found himself caught between Nancy Ward Weldon and Gale Hoover Hammond on the left and twin sister Jaci Tomsic Roseman and Cathy Kopules Wilkens on the right.
Last but not least....Danny Smith, Pete Falletta and Rick Roblek - cookin' up trouble? Well, we can only hope!
Until next time, enjoy the pictures and stay tuned. LOTS more are on the way. Bye for now - and GO WILDCATS!
As promised, here are more pictures Joe Klune took of the Friday night mixer at the Olde Towne Carriage House near the Riverwalk on September 10.Below, Richard Sell chats with Tim and Lynn Simmons Richard and Linda Trujillo enjoy a laugh with David Binkley.
Meanwhile, back at the Welcome station, Nancy Carhart Pope and Crete Crawford Wood find that all of a sudden everyone seems to be arriving at once!
Below, Lynn Simmons (Tim's wife) and Jeanne Takaki (Duane's wife) chat near the entrance.
...and another angle. Behind Jeanne and Lynn you'll see that Duane has caught up with Maryellen Koller Mencimer and her hubby Gary.
Then Duane and Jeanne strike up a conversation with Leonard Dioniso who came all the way from Oklahoma to attend the reunion. And THAT is one thing that is so magical about Central reunions...turning around and finding yet another classmate who shared your past all those years ago at 216 E. Orman in Pueblo.
Of course we all look a bit more like our parents now...but I don't think any of us cared!
Above, Richard Trujillo and Mike Healy discuss old times. Richard and wife Linda traveled to Pueblo from Texas to attend the 45th.
Above - Maryellen Koller Mencimer and hubby Gary traveled to Pueblo from Indio, California. Here they're chatting with Crete Crawford Wood's husband, Chips. Chips was so helpful in set-up and all else Central-Reunion-Work-Detail that we've made him an honorary member of the reunion committee...
And below - Chips, Gary and Maryellen provide brilliant smiles for Joe and his camera.
Rick Roblek spending a few minutes with David Daurio. That's Carolyn Daurio, David's wife peeking out behind David. Caroyln was busy providing the wonderful appetizers we enjoyed on Friday night, and she kept those food trays full!
Below, Dave and Marilyn Binkley discuss the layout of a community in Grand Lake, Colorado, with Gale Hoover Hammond. Both the Binkleys and the Hammonds have homes in Grand Lake - we are neighbors and we didn't even know it until years after the fact, although Dave and Marilyn live in Grand Lake year round. Hmmm...maybe we should plan a reunion in Grand Lake...we could rent some boats.... High school sweethearts, Mike and Karen Coker Miller - they still make a pretty cute couple! Not to mention that Karen still has her same gorgeous smile.
Speaking of smiles, here are four Central beauties - left to right are Kathy Brown Putnam (from Surprise, AZ), Cherie Ludlow Chapparo (from Mesa, AZ), Cathy Kopules Wilkins (from Evergreen, CO) and Ethie Corcodilos Campagna (from San Jose, CA). Distance can never separate good friends!
Danny Daurio, Cheryl Vala Concialdi and Duane Takaki catching up. Danny, Cheryl and Duane have all made the Pueblo area their home. And - did you all know that a few years ago, no less a respected resource than "Money Magazine" named Pueblo as the TOP CITY to live in America?!!! Pueblo arguably has so much to offer - great weather, affordable housing, top-notch theater, arts, symphonies, skiing nearby- the whole shebang. Not to mention the Pass Key restaurant...Oh, yeah, we all remember those great sandwiches....
...but I digress. Below are Rick Roblek and Tom Sarconi in deep conversation...in the background, Loretta Douglas (here all the way from Virginia!) and Les Robinson share a few moments in a dialog.
Another high school sweethearts couple, Cherie Ludlow Chapparo and Bill Chapparo share some laughs with Pete Falletta and Linda Wicken Delone.
With the sun beginning to set in the background, Duane and Jeanne Takaki enjoy a bit of banter with Chips and Crete Crawford Woods.
Old friends Kathy Brown Putnam and Ron Concialdi...Kathy and her husband have retired in Arizona while Ron, who is a Pueblo dentist, still goes into his office a few days a week.
